Launch!

Drone coverage of upcoming Amesbury launch
Author Last Post

Agreed

Hi Kenn:

My son Dylan and I will check in with you before he launches the drone. He'd be happy to capture some still shots of the launch area, as well as the drag races if that's okay. He knows about the 400' ceiling and will be careful to stay downwind of the launch area -- if that makes sense to you.

Excited to join tomorrow. Sadly, I haven't been able to make any other CMASS launches this year.

Cheers,

David

And I should have mentioned you need to follow FAA rules. Just because rockets can go to 3000 ft doesn’t mean a drone is allowed over 400ft.

The main thing is to keep it out of the way of the launch activities. Don’t let it get hit, we wouldn’t want to damage a rocket :-) It’s also good to let the lco know who is flying in case they want to give you any directions.

I'm a newby here, so I don't know what issues drones can cause, but it sounds like a wonderful idea to me!

Yes, videos of the drag races from above would be great.

I'd also like to talk to him about some frame captures of the general set up from an aerial view. A good picture showing where we want people to park and set up.

Dunno what others thing, but I love the idea! I was also considering putting an Astrocam on mine as that would be cool footage.

Hi all:

Wasn't sure whether I should ask this question on the "Launch!" thread or start a new thread. Anyhow, my son, who's a pretty good drone pilot, was wondering whether it would be helpful to take video of the two drag races on Saturday? He's had some experience filming launches before, and would be careful about staying out of the way. He'd be thrilled to help if there's interest.

Just wondering what everyone thinks.

Thanks!
