Launch!

HPR Scale
Alexander Bruccoleri

Hi All, My builds have been slowed down with kids and life, but I finally finished a scale rocket aimed at Amesbury. Full scale Arcas, all fiberglass, 54 mm motor mount due to the boat tail. Without recovery it’s 15 pounds so I estimate 20 pounds pad weight. It might be too heavy for a J415 and should be perfect on a J800.

It needs a 1515 rail. Is that rail size something fliers need to request ahead of time?

Cheers, Alex

Hi Alex,

Yes, it's a good idea to request the 1515 set up ahead of time. CMASS has a 2-piece rail but, with notice, we can have use of the MMMSClub 1-piece rail which is a few feet longer.

Can you tell us more about your proposed flight profile? Of course, we'd like to attempt this flight when the wind is blowing in the ideal direction.

The longer the rail, the better. It should be okay on an J415 but a J800 will have excess rail velocity.

The projected altitude is between 1500 and 2000 ft. Drogue will be a 2 or 3 ft chute and main 7 or 8 ft. It has two altimeters and motor eject for back up drogue. (3x drogue deploy and 2x main).

I am not sure where to deploy the main. Thinking 650 with backup at 500 but maybe I should lower that to 500 and 300. Thoughts?

Also I am very aware of the win direction limitation. This rocket and most dual deploy rockets are 50+ ft when full deployed and a large cross section for a power line. It only flies when you folks are comfortable and we all have confidence in the wind.
